Punk. Rock. Humor.
Yet another recent CD. Well, it's old (from 1998) but my wife just bought it for me.
Dillinger Four specialize in very smart, very aggressive Pop punk. Yeah, I know, but you're wrong. This sounds nothing like Bad Religion, Blink 182 or NOFX. It sounds more like The Pogues, Billy Bragg, Swinging Utters, and Screeching Weasel. In other words, you need periods between the words. It's Pop.Punk.Rock. It's pop: these are three minute songs with hooks, choruses, and melody. It's Punk: virtually every song seethes with bitter discontent, and righteous indignation. It's Rock: even if you're not much for Punk, you'll recognize the feel-good nature of the aggression as akin to everything from AC/DC to The Who.
So, this is their first record, and it starts them out right: St. Paddy, the bass player has said that his ideal world would be a bunch of geniuses hanging around telling fart jokes, and that's the smart aleck fun that drives this. I like it. Yes, sir, I do.
