You know, I don't get it either.

I'm afraid it's an "age" thing. I'm probably too old to "get" it.

Of course, I've never been a fan of chat/instant messaging either.

I'm not a huge fan of instant mess, myself. I can kind of see the point, but it's not for me. But, have you see these twitter pages? Like half of an AIM chatroom, left out on the web like a Burroughs Cut up with weaker material. Part of the way I can understand chat is that it's ephemeral: it's like a conversation.

Likewise, I can see how Myspace is huge with the teenagers, because it's all about cliques and popularity, and (buzzword alert) social engineering. That seems perfect for teens. But Facebook? It's myspace with a more difficult layout (thus excluding many teens) and software that invades your computer like some kind of virus you're inviting into your hard drive. I just don't see the allure in that, at all.

Maybe I am old, i don't know, but I'd like to see the kids shock and alienate me by well, being shocking and different, not more...opaque....
