Y Tori Dont Kare
So, I have it on some authority that today is National Grammar Day.
Hmmm. So what? I’m not French, I don’t care about grammar. I view language as a tool for communication. Nothing more, and nothing less. If a series of dots and dashes conveys the meaning of your intent to your intended audience, well then .-.-.-.-.
So, I view grammar as only one possible component of language. There are those who disagree. I’m more aware of that than most, as I used to be an English teacher (insert blood curdling scream, here). Here’s the thing: if the rules aren’t serving you, they should be. These people who love to correct your syntax at every turn, who get mad at street signs, and disrupt grocery stores are missing a huge point: it’s about communication, not rules.
