So, things have changed, right?
The Fed lowered the interest rate. That means what exactly? It means that commercial paper stays alive a little bit longer. It doesn't mean that your adjustable rate mortgage necessarily goes down, nor does it mean that inflation won't happen, nor does it mean that the GDP will go up, or anything else. It just means that financial guys can loan each other money a little bit easier.
It looks like Virginia is now a Democratic state. That means that Northern Virginia wants the label 'democrat'. If you look at the candidates, nobody was running on a wildly liberal platform. Virginia is still a moderately conservative mid-atlantic state. (That's the real change. Virginia used to be a Southern State, but ever since the early 1990's, with the way the population shifted north, and east, Virginia has more in common with Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey than it does with The Carolinas) . it pays to remember that there used to be such a beast as a "Southern Democrat" meaning a pretty socially conservative politician who ran under the banner of the Democratic party. Likewise, the Democrats in Virginia are a pretty conservative bunch.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that it's not as bad to be overweight.
Well, no, not exactly. They figured that being overweight (a BMI of 25-30) was not associated with an increased risk of cancer, in general. It still increases your risk of diabetes, kidney disease, breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer…. In other words (and the words of the study, itself) "This doesn't mean that being overweight is good for you, but it is associated with less mortality than expected". Not much change, there, huh?
