Side note: Why don't we start calling "DVDS" "Davids" ? It's easier to say, and vaguely obfuscating, so it'll seem "hip". I propose to start calling 'em "davids" from now on. So, what'd I get?
Well, I got the david of "Idiocracy". That's the Mike Judge movie that you never saw. It's a dystopian sci-fi comedy about waking up five hundred years from now to discover that yes, people can get more stupid.
I also got "The Proposition" (which I'm tempted to call "The preposition". It's all about "before") which is the Nick Cave-written australian western. It's up there with Sam Peckinpah and Blood Meridian for ultra-violent brutal and brooding tales of a grungy era now past. Of course I've got high hopes for this david.
I also got the david you all knew I'd be getting at some point: Snakes on a .....wait for it.......Mothafunking PLANE! Yes, indeed. Cheesetastic, and transparent, and exploitative and exactly what te title says it is: snakes....on....a....plane.
Oh, and that ain't enough. I also had to purchase Syriana. George Clooney is more of an interesting character than an interesting actor, but the weighty topic, coupled with the deft directorial style of Stephen Gaghan made this very serious movie seem to have more merit than "let's see Clooney try to act".
Finally, I got A Scanner Darkly. Philip K Dick is one of my three favorite authors: the other two are Franz Kafka and Chuck Palahnuik. So, it ain't just that I like Sci fi. ( I like Sci Fi on the screen. Don't really like to read it, though.) Any PKD will set me to thinkin' for weeks, and weeks. I think that's because his stories are more about the mysteries of the human brain than they are about gadgets from the future. Anyway, this movie is based upon a semi-autobiographical type like novel (as many of his books were) from PKD and it's done in "rotoscoped" animation. Sounds like fun, to me, how about you?
Now, I've got to crow about one more thing: I got all of these movies for about $23. Yes, "previously viewed" (aka USED!) davids ROCK! That's cheaper than taking my Baby and me to see 1 movie (which we're gonna do this weekend. Gotta see Harry Potter. We're American, I think it falls under "citizenship requirements")
